P.E. and Sports Provision
P.E. AND SPORTS PROVISION AT GREAT HARWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL
Children in the Foundation Stage have daily access to outdoor play, where they have opportunities to develop their physical skills through both planned and child initiated activities. Children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 take part in two lessons of P.E. per week. In year 5 one of these lessons is swimming tuition at Hyndburn Leisure Centre. P.E. lessons are taught by the class teacher and, in the case of swimming, by a qualified swimming instructor.
Our P.E. curriculum develops skills across a range of disciplines. These are gymnastics, games, athletics and outdoor adventure activities. Details about when each year group studies each of these disciplines can be found on the curriculum maps which each class has posted on their page.
Key Stage 2 classes each have an opportunity once a week to receive football training at lunchtime from a qualified coach. Qualified P.E. instructors also run an after school multiskills club which is open to all pupils from reception to year 6.
At certain times of the year teams of pupils from Key Stage 2 may take part in inter-school football or netball competitions.
